Sparks Design

Sparks Designs conjures the wilds of nature into expressive visual narratives through shifting specters of shadow and light. Cut metal designs are combined with prismatic film, mirrors, and high lumen lights to create mesmerizing works of art.

Sparks has created installations in over 6 countries, 30 cities, and 40+ global events. They are lead builders at Lookout Arts Quarry, a 61-acre industrial rock quarry turned event center and home to Sh’bang! A Festival of Ideas.

Exhibits

Our elevator, one of the most transportive spaces at Cannonball, has been tastefully designed by Sparks Designs.
Stepping into the elevator one enters a temporary portal in which material substance dissolves into ephemeral kaleidoscopic space, and color shifting shadow patterns play tricks on one’s senses. Whether taking off to the 2nd floor, or returning down to base, passengers are transported through a liminal space time gravity dissolution, like the imaginal discs of a liquified chrysalis in metamorphosis, waking up to build the butterfly.

Panels of metal are cut with intricate designs of vining and flowering foliage, chrysalis, winged eyes, fern feelers, beetles, dragonfly, snake and other metamorphosing beings. Panels are backed with color shifting light reflective acrylic panels and illuminated from behind to create silhouettes of the cut metal in a light box effect while in other areas the light shines through to cast shadow patterns across surrounding surfaces and passengers.Strategically placed mirror panels add reflection bending infinity perspectives. Materials and techniques used will ensure a durable, easy to clean, and safely touchable surface that allows for regular public interface and ease of maintenance. Nature based designs and shadow and light art create a soft immersive experience that is both mesmerizingly interactive while also being a welcoming and sensory space for those taking the elevator.
